Description

Special collaboration workshop with Ryosoku-in and Asahiyaki.

A workshop that opens up the senses, finding balance, and practicing mindfulness through Zazen, Modern Calligraphy and Tea Workshop.

In the first part of the workshop, you will experience zazen with Toryo Ito, deputy head priest of Ryosoku-in, while overlooking the beautiful autumn view of the temple’s Japanese garden. Focusing only to the sound of your surroundings, the smell of the season, the relaxed posture of your body while being aware of your breathing. There’s nothing more precious than feeling the peace of our mind.

In the second part of the workshop, you will experience how to bond with the pen and find balance on paper while learning the basic of modern calligraphy. Being not the typical calligraphy workshop that focuses on how to write, instead more focused on how to pour your senses onto paper, through drawings of patterns, lines, shapes and/or words that calms your mind. Let your hand touch the pen and paper and flow naturally as its’ own way of meditation.

The third part of the workshop is all about the way of tea. Conducted by Toshiyuki Matsubayashi, 2nd son of Hosai XV, the previous head of the 400 years old Asahiyaki pottery in Uji. During this final session, you will learn how to make, and experience the taste of various teas, complemented by seasonal Japanese sweets.

*Calligraphy tools, papers, materials, tea and wagashi are included in this workshops.
*Due to limited space, this workshop is on a first come first serve basis.
